The Spoodle is not as well known as the Cockapoo but is almost identical in appearance but is generally slightly larger. There are two sizes - The Miniature Spoodle maturing to between 14" and 20" and the Standard Spoodle maturing to between 16 - 24". The Cockapoo and the Spoodle have very similar characters and make devoted companions.
The Spoodle has a very low shedding silky hair coat that is often wavy and occasionally there are denser fleece coated puppies in the litter that are virtually non shedding.
Spoodles are high energy dogs and suitable for experienced confident families. They are fun, very loving and interactive and extremely easy to train. Spoodles need lots of daily exercise, companionship and games. They are extremely intelligent and loyal but you need time and commitment. If you are a first time or less dominant dog owner consider an F1b Cockerpoo which has a slightly lower energy level and is as happy playing ball as going for long walks . An Australian type Labradoodle would also be a good alternative choice for a family with small children or more nervous adults.
Colours - Solid colours Gold / Chocolate and Black often with white markings. Spoodles also come in parti colours Black / White, Chocolate / White and Tricolour. All colours are equally popular.
The coat will need regular grooming, scissoring or clipping as it sheds very little. It is up to you how you want them to look, as scruffy or as manicured as you wish.
